Become an Extension Master Gardener

mg reg header.jpg

The GPMGA Extension Master Gardener Training Program is the first step toward becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer. After the completion of 50 classroom hours (January - April of each year), students then become an EMG intern. Graduation involves completing a minumum of 50 volunteer hours of service for the community (a list of various projects within Goochland and Powhatan counties will be given to the student).

Classroom Attendance: As things have stood in past years, each week students will be required to attend every Tuesday (in Goochland) and every Thursday (in Powhatan) from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Classes are generally held in the Goochland Extension Building (2748 Dogtown Rd) and at the Powhatan County Public Library.

Cost for the 2025 Master Gardener Training Program was $160. The cost of our 2026 program has not yet been determined; however, it is not expected to go up more than $20 if at all.
